The unclicked snap is a familiar sound. It shivers into Jack's back like a dart thrown and stuck there, and someone watching him closely might note the sudden tension stringing through him like a wire, the way he shifts, just slightly.
It's not much. Just enough to remind the man that William might still be kind of a kid, but he's got two grown men here with him, and that Jack might not look like much, sitting there all slouched and half-sprawled, but he can sure give out a licking if he needs to.
Not like Ennis. Ennis was the one of them who went in swinging and came out last man standing, but Jack ain't bad, and he ain't that small, neither. Blue eyes watch the new man, keen, though his voice is lazy.
